I'm drawn to people with really expressive faces. I guess I always have been. This week I've made a number of little sketches of faces. Expressive faces. I looked back through some of my journals and realized that these aren't the first ones that I've done. Something about the emotion caught in a moment, maybe. I'm not sure why, maybe it's as simple as identifying with the feelings that I see in them. Whatever the reason, I have fun with them. And there are many more faces to capture yet. It's here! The warm weather has started and it's wonderful. This week saw temperatures above normal, highs in the upper 40s, 50s and even the upper 60s. Too top it all off I had two days off work to enjoy it all. I took advantage with long walks each day. It was fun to be walking in the warm sun looking out on the frozen lake. Not only did the change in weather make it great to be outdoors, both plants and animals took advantage as well. Finally the robins have shown up, flocks of geese and cranes, goosander, bluebirds, nesting chickadees, and purple finch. Bulbs have started to poke their noses out of the ground, yarrow and poppies are always among the first. Even my herbs are showing color chives, oregano, thyme and sage. It won't be long there is color everywhere. I've even added an extra mile to my commute walking further from the bus and home. Giving myself time to take things in and really enjoy both the large and small changes as they come. This week I've been enjoying the sudden rush of spring with temperatures soaring into the 50s. We haven't seen weather this warm in months. Longer daylight has let me enjoy my porch again. Kicking back and basking in the sun shining through the windows. The bright sunshine and warm weather have brought something else with them... Warm Air + Frozen Ground + Melting Snow = Fog I love the fog. It's somewhere between...between day and night...between emerging and receding with light that's strange and beautiful. Fog transports me to a place where my imagination rules. I had some fun this week letting my imagination play with variations on the same image. I'm hoping for more of the same next week...fog and sun and time for imagination.
It's been a hodgepodge week. Good days and bad, successful drawings and ones that were less so. Through it all there's been a pleasant undercurrent, maybe it's the ever increasing signs of springs, more days of sunshine or new personal routines. A crayon drawing of Mr. Spock to commemorate the passing of Leonard Nimoy. And more practice drawing feet. A sleeping baby. And a bright summer flower. A sign of the coming season. A nice way to end a week's collection.
